Angela Rayner criticizes Nigel Farage over £72m crypto donations

During the Labour Party conference, Housing Secretary Angela Rayner criticized Reform UK leader Nigel Farage regarding £72 million in donations received from cryptocurrency investors Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne. Rayner accused Farage of “falling at the feet” of vested interests, referring to the donors as “crypto billionaire sugar daddies.”

The donations, which included two £36 million contributions announced within a 48-hour period, represent the largest amount ever donated to a UK political party by individuals. This influx of capital has intensified scrutiny regarding political funding rules and the influence of wealthy donors.

Reform UK has defended the funds as legitimate, stating they will be used to build the party's organization for the next general election. The party maintains that the donors expect no reciprocal favors, such as peerages or government contracts. Additionally, Farage is currently under investigation by parliament’s standards commissioner regarding a £5 million donation from Harborne that was not declared upon his entry into the House of Commons.
