Angelina Jolie returns to acting with personal film “Couture”
Actress Angelina Jolie is back on screen starring in the drama Couture, in which she plays Maxine, an American filmmaker who receives a breast‑cancer diagnosis while shooting a fashion‑week project in Paris. The role mirrors Jolie’s own experience – her mother died of ovarian and breast cancer in 2007 and Jolie underwent a preventive double mastectomy in 2013 after testing positive for the BRCA1 gene.
Jolie told Variety that her “fighting spirit is finally back,” crediting her six children for encouraging her to return to acting after a hiatus taken around the time of her divorce from Brad Pitt. She said the children, now adults, push her to travel and pursue work that balances family life.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, opened in France in February 2026, and received a US release on June 26 2026 with a New York screening that featured a black strapless Tom Ford gown and a Bottega Veneta aviator. Jolie used the promotion to discuss the personal nature of the story, the importance of empathy for people facing illness, and how she has spoken publicly about women’s health and preparing her children for the possibility of her own mortality.
