Angelina Jolie says financial ties keep her in Hollywood despite wanting to leave

Angelina Jolie told the Wall Street Journal she feels "trapped" in Hollywood and would like to leave Los Angeles, but she cannot afford to stop acting because her work funds her family’s lifestyle. She said she hopes to spend more time in her home country, Cambodia, once circumstances allow.

Jolie’s divorce from Brad Pitt was finally finalized in 2024 after a lengthy court battle over custody of their six children and the division of assets, including a vineyard. In recent interviews she said she is regaining strength and balance, focusing on projects that let her be with her now‑adult children. She also mentioned her fashion line Atelier Jolie and recalled undergoing a preventive double mastectomy in 2013 because of a BRCA1 gene mutation.

The actress emphasized that, while personal challenges have been taxing, she continues to work on film roles that accommodate her family life.
