Maddox Jolie officially drops Brad Pitt's surname

Maddox Chivan Jolie, the eldest son of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has officially changed his legal name to remove his father’s surname. A judge in Los Angeles granted the request on Monday, September 14, 2026, noting there were “no objections” to the petition. Maddox’s name has been legally altered from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.

Maddox is part of a broader trend among the children of the former Hollywood couple to distance themselves from Pitt. His sister, Shiloh, successfully completed a similar legal name change in 2024. Other siblings, Zahara and Vivienne, have also initiated or are currently undergoing legal processes to remove the Pitt surname from their official names.

The legal shifts follow years of publicized tension and litigation between Jolie and Pitt following their 2016 separation. While the name changes reflect personal decisions by the adult children, they underscore the ongoing family rift between the former couple.
