Brad Pitt's children legally drop “Pitt” surname amid family estrangement

Four of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s six children have filed court petitions in California to remove the Pitt surname from their hyphenated last names. Shiloh Jolie, aged 20, was the first to receive a court order authorising the change to Shiloh Jolie. Vivienne Marcheline Jolie filed a petition to be listed simply as Vivienne Jolie, with a hearing set for 2 November. Zahara Marley Jolie is seeking to adopt the name Zahara Marley Jolie, and Maddox Chivan Jolie has a hearing scheduled for 14 September. Their brother Pax remains the only sibling who has not filed a name‑change request.

Separately, Suri Cruise, the 20‑year‑old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally changed her surname to Suri Noelle and is registered on the Allegheny County voter list in Pennsylvania. The wave of name changes reflects a broader trend among celebrity offspring to distance themselves from famous parental surnames.

Brad Pitt has been described as “crushed” by the decisions, while Angelina Jolie publicly says she is not angry and is focused on her children’s emotional wellbeing.
