Angelina Melnikova wins all-around gold at European Gymnastics Championships
At the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Zagreb, Russian gymnast Angelina Melnikova, competing under a neutral flag, secured multiple titles. Melnikova won the individual all-around gold with a score of 55.932, followed by teammate Anna Kalmykova in second and France’s Elena Colas in third. Melnikova also claimed gold in the vault final and earned bronze medals on the balance beam and floor exercise.
Sixteen-year-old Elena Colas emerged as a standout performer in her first senior season, winning gold on the balance beam and silver on the floor exercise, in addition to her all-around bronze. Other notable winners include Germany’s Helen Kevric, who took gold on the uneven bars, and Italy’s Manila Esposito, who won the floor exercise final.
The event was marked by logistical challenges for the Russian delegation, which faced initial visa denials from Croatian authorities. Melnikova and Kalmykova eventually received visas just before the competition began. Due to current restrictions, Russian athletes are competing without national flags or anthems.
