Angelines Fernández fought in Spanish Civil War before acting career

New details have emerged regarding the life of Angelines Fernández, the actress best known for her role as ‘Bruja del 71’ in the television series ‘El Chavo del Ocho’. Before her acting career, Fernández served as a militia member during the Spanish Civil War, fighting against the forces of Francisco Franco.

Born in Madrid in 1922, Fernández took up arms in her early twenties alongside various republican, feminist, and labor movements. Due to her anti-Francoist stance, she faced political repression and was eventually forced into exile to escape the dictatorship, traveling from Spain to Cuba and eventually to Mexico.
