Angelini Pharma enters U.S. market with $4.1 billion Catalyst acquisition

Angelini Pharma, the pharmaceutical arm of the long-standing Italian Angelini family empire, has successfully entered the United States market through the acquisition of Catalyst Pharmaceuticals. The deal, valued at $4.1 billion in cash, was supported by Blackstone and Italy’s CDP Equity.

Led by fourth-generation controlling shareholder Thea Paola Angelini and her husband, Sergio Marullo di Condojanni, the expansion aims to leverage Catalyst’s expertise in rare neurological and neuromuscular diseases. This move complements Angelini Pharma’s existing focus on brain disorders such as epilepsy and depression. The acquisition, which closed in July, marks a significant strategic shift for the Rome-based company as it seeks to establish a presence in the world’s largest pharmaceutical market.
