Angelo Vassallo docufilm “Perché?” begins filming
Filming has officially begun on “Perché?”, an independent docufilm dedicated to the life and political legacy of Angelo Vassallo, the former mayor of Pollica known as the ‘Sindaco Pescatore’. Directed by Giuseppe Falagario, the project is funded and produced by Vassallo’s brothers, Dario and Massimo Vassallo, who serve as president and vice president of the Fondazione Angelo Vassallo Sindaco Pescatore.
Rather than focusing solely on the tragic assassination that occurred on September 5, 2010, the film aims to portray Vassallo as a man, a fisherman, and a visionary administrator. The producers intend to showcase his model of dedicated local politics to younger generations and seek to address the unanswered question regarding the motives behind his murder.
The production aims for participation in Italian and international film festivals. The Foundation has also issued a public appeal to major streaming platforms, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, to support the project’s reach. The producers expressed a desire to use cinema as a tool for civil justice to ensure the search for truth continues.
