Angelynn Mock sentenced to life for murdering mother
Angelynn Mock, a former television news anchor for the St. Louis Fox affiliate KTVI, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers. The sentencing took place in Wichita, Kansas, where Mock will be eligible for parole after 25 years.
Mock pleaded guilty in August to first-degree murder regarding the stabbing of Avers on Halloween in 2020. The victim was ambushed while asleep in her bed and later died in the hospital. During the sentencing hearing, family members provided emotional impact statements. Avers' stepdaughter, Sonja Kreutziger, described the attack as ‘so devastating, so calculated, so demonic,’ noting that the killing was entirely out of character for the woman they knew.
The case previously involved legal questions regarding Mock's competency to stand trial and an initial claim of self-defense. Mock did not speak to the court during the hearing.
