Angers woman detained for alleged murder of newborn found in trash
A woman in her 30s has been placed in pre-trial detention in Angers, France, following the discovery of a newborn baby's body in a residential trash compartment. The discovery was made by gardeners maintaining the green spaces of a housing complex, who initially reported finding human organic matter, later identified by a forensic doctor as a human placenta.
During a subsequent police search of an apartment overlooking the area, authorities located the body of a male infant in a basement trash area. Preliminary autopsy results suggest the infant may have been born at term and alive, leading prosecutors to formally charge the woman with the murder of a minor under 15. The suspect, who has no prior criminal record, faces the possibility of life imprisonment.
