Angie Craig expresses interest in WNBA commissioner role
Minnesota Representative Angie Craig has expressed interest in becoming the next commissioner of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The 54-year-old Democrat is preparing to leave her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in January following an unsuccessful Senate primary campaign.
In an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune, Craig noted that the role is an exception to her initial plans of avoiding immediate new professional commitments after Congress. She described the position as “every middle-aged lesbian’s dream job” and indicated that her wife, Cheryl, would support her pursuing the opportunity.
The WNBA is currently searching for a successor to outgoing commissioner Cathy Engelbert. The commissioner oversees critical league operations, including commercial partnerships, franchise expansions, and national broadcast arrangements.
