Angie Nixon campaigns on labor and public safety in Florida

Florida Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon held a town hall in Orlando with Disney World employees to discuss cost of living, healthcare, and immigration. During the event, workers expressed concerns regarding the cost of groceries and the potential for deportation under proposed immigration crackdowns, particularly for those under Temporary Protected Status.

Nixon, a former union organizer and current Florida House representative, is campaigning on a platform that includes a $25 minimum wage, Medicare for All, and the passage of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act. She has also expressed support for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Addressing criticisms regarding public safety, Nixon clarified that she does not support abolishing police departments or correctional facilities. Instead, she advocates for abolishing for-profit prisons and defunding the militarization of police and Flock cameras. Her policy approach emphasizes addressing the root causes of crime, such as housing instability, food insecurity, and lack of employment opportunities.
