Angie Nixon defends identity and political views in Florida Senate race
Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon is facing intense scrutiny regarding her identity, appearance, and political views during her campaign against Republican Senator Ashley Moody. Nixon, a state representative from Jacksonville, has addressed personal attacks, including comments from Vice President JD Vance suggesting she did not ‘belong in America.’ Nixon has responded by highlighting her family history as descendants of Georgia sharecroppers and focusing her platform on healthcare, education, and housing.
Nixon has also defended the use of radical political imagery at her Jacksonville bookstore and cafe, Cafe Resistance. She defended displaying portraits of figures such as Assata Shakur and Angela Davis, describing the establishment as a safe space for community organizing and learning history. Nixon noted that the business is currently struggling financially and requires her personal funds to remain operational. She further accused her opponent of sending a heckler to criticize the portraits displayed at the cafe.
