Anglers set new world fishing records in Poland and US
Two significant fishing world records have recently been established in Poland and the United States.
In Poland, anglers Adrian Gontarz and Krzysztof Pyra from the Polish Fishing Academy caught a Wels catfish measuring exactly 292 centimeters at Zalew Rybnicki during the Mikado Cup on October 19, 2025. This catch surpasses the previous world record of 285 centimeters set by Italian angler Alessandro Biancardi in 2023. The struggle to land the predator lasted over thirty minutes.
In the United States, Doug Olson of Braham, Minnesota, caught a large brown trout (Salmo trutta) in Lake Superior. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officially recognized the catch, which measured 30.25 inches (approximately 77 centimeters).
