Anglican Church of Kenya warns of political violence and economic decline
The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) has issued a sharp critique of the current administration, warning that the nation faces rising political violence, ethnic mobilization, and intimidation as the 2027 general election approaches. Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit described the political atmosphere as “premature and increasingly toxic,” specifically condemning the exploitation of unemployed youth as instruments for political conflict.
Addressing economic concerns, the Archbishop stated that the country is heading in the wrong direction, citing high unemployment, rising living costs, and an increasing tax burden that impoverishes citizens while public resources are allegedly squandered. He highlighted the failure of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and described the health sector as being “in shambles.”
Additionally, the church expressed opposition to a proposed Basic Education Bill, which it claims seeks to transfer control of religious-managed schools to the state. The ACK called on political leaders to lower political tensions and urged security agencies to act impartially.
