Anglican leaders hold historic regional meeting in São Paulo

Anglican primates and provincial secretaries from across the Americas and the Caribbean held a historic regional meeting in São Paulo, Brazil, from August 10 to 12, 2026. This gathering marked the first time primates met alongside their respective provincial secretaries to engage in mutual discernment and prayer.

Participants addressed various regional challenges, including the impacts of colonialism, secularism, polarization, and migration. The leaders also issued an affirmation of the dignity and rights of Indigenous peoples, noting their role as stewards of the Amazon and voices in the struggle for climate justice.

The meeting was supported by the Anglican Alliance, which facilitated connections between diverse provinces to strengthen shared witness and collaboration. Leaders from the Episcopal Church, the Anglican Church of Canada, the Anglican Church of Mexico, and several other regional provinces were in attendance.
