Angélique Kidjo receives first star for an African musician on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Beninese musician Angélique Kidjo has become the first African musician and the first Black African to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony, held on August 18, 2026, honored the five-time Grammy winner in the Recording category.

Kidjo received the 2,854th star at 7011 Hollywood Boulevard. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce also declared the date ‘Angélique Kidjo Day’. The event was attended by actor Willem Dafoe and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr.

Kidjo’s career spans over four decades and 18 albums, blending West African rhythms with genres such as jazz, funk, and R&B. Her work has included collaborations with artists like Alicia Keys and Pharrell Williams.
