Angélique Kidjo receives star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Beninese music icon Angélique Kidjo has become the first African musician and the first Black African woman to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony, held on 18 August 2026, honored the five-time Grammy winner for her more than four decades of contributions to music and global culture.

During the event, Kidjo emphasized the importance of African influence on global music, stating, “Without us, there is no music on this planet.” The ceremony included tributes from industry figures such as Harvey Mason Jr. of the Recording Academy and actor Willem Dafoe, who praised her stage presence and humanitarian dedication.

Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy celebrated the milestone, describing his relationship with Kidjo as a “God mother relationship” and noting the historic significance of her achievement for the African music community.
