Anglo American appoints Benjamín Martinich to lead Andina-Los Bronces integration

Anglo American has appointed Benjamín Martinich as the Vice President of Integration for the Andina-Los Bronces alliance, effective September 1. Martinich, who previously served as the company’s Vice President of Safety, Health, and Environment in Chile, will lead the coordination of the Joint Mining Plan established in agreement with Codelco.

The strategic alliance aims to integrate the operations of the Andina and Los Bronces copper deposits. The plan is projected to release an additional 2.7 million tons of copper over a 21-year period, averaging approximately 120,000 additional tons annually. By coordinating the exploitation of adjacent resources and optimizing existing infrastructure, the project seeks to achieve unit costs roughly 15% lower than independent operations.

Financial projections suggest the plan could generate at least US$5 billion in incremental pre-tax value, to be shared equally between Anglo American and Codelco. Implementation remains subject to obtaining the necessary environmental and sectoral permits.
