AngloGold Ashanti appoints Mateo Restrepo to lead Quebradona in Colombia

AngloGold Ashanti has appointed Mateo Restrepo as the new president of its subsidiary, Minera de Cobre Quebradona SAS BIC, in Colombia. Restrepo succeeds Mauricio Echeverry, who led the subsidiary since 2022.

Restrepo brings over 20 years of experience in the mining, public affairs, and government sectors. His previous roles include presiding over the El Zancudo mine in Titiribí and leading Continental Gold, where he oversaw the construction of the Buriticá mine. He also held executive positions at Prodeco Group (Glencore) and Grupo Salinas, and served as a Counselor for Economic Recovery in the Presidency of the Republic.

In his new role, Restrepo is tasked with driving the environmental licensing phase for the Quebradona project located in Jericó and Támesis, Antioquia. The company aims to leverage his background in public administration and institutional dialogue to engage with local communities. The project involves a projected investment of US$2.5 billion and an estimated US$1.5 billion in exports.
