AngloGold Ashanti empowers 22 Sanso women through entrepreneurship program

AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) has concluded its one-year Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship (A2E) Programme, graduating 22 women from the Sanso community in the Obuasi Municipal area. The group, consisting of 10 hairdressers and 12 dressmakers, received technical coaching, mentoring, and entrepreneurship training to facilitate self-employment.

To support their transition into business ownership, the graduates were provided with trade-specific start-up kits. Dressmakers received industrial sewing and knitting machines, while hairdressers were equipped with items including hair dryers, kettles, and salon chairs. The participants also earned certificates from the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) to validate their technical skills.

The initiative, which cost approximately GHC306,177.40, was supported by the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) and the NVTI. Beyond technical training, the program included capacity building for the master craft persons who served as mentors. Future support for the graduates is expected to include training in business management, record keeping, and SSNIT registration.
