Angol launches $1.5 bn smart traffic‑light upgrade

The city of Angol in Chile's Araucanía region will modernize traffic control at 11 intersections with an intelligent signalling system. The $1,534,656,473 project is funded by the Regional Council (CORE) and will be technically led by the regional transport and telecommunications secretary, Rodrigo Lagos.

Lagos, mayor Enrique Neira and deputy Eduardo Cretton presented the plan, which includes replacing obsolete lights, connecting them to the regional traffic‑control centre (UOCT) and enabling remote management to reduce congestion, improve travel times and enhance pedestrian safety. The 24‑month programme will cover licensing, design, installation and fine‑tuning of the new system.
