Angola and Namibia to establish one-stop border post
Angola and Namibia are preparing to establish a One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) at the Oshikango–Santa Clara crossing to enhance bilateral trade and mobility. The initiative aims to simplify customs and immigration procedures, reduce administrative delays, and eliminate bottlenecks that have historically hindered economic exchange between the two nations.
The formalization of this project, along with a comprehensive treaty on trade and economic cooperation, is expected to take place during a presidential summit in Luanda on October 19, 2026. This summit will mark the inaugural session of the Angola–Namibia Bi-National Commission.
Namibian Ambassador Jerobeam Shaanika noted that current trade volumes remain below their potential despite geographical proximity and strong political ties. The move toward a unified border post is intended to foster a more efficient environment for the movement of goods and people, supporting regional economic development and aligning with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) trade frameworks.
