Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe advance electoral processes

In Angola, the Constitutional Court has finalized the list of political parties authorized to participate in the 2027 general elections. The approved list includes 16 formations, notably adding BASTA (Bloco para a Alternância Social de Todos Angolanos) and PUP (Partido de União Patriótica) to the registry. Established parties such as MPLA, UNITA, FNLA, and PRS are among those cleared to compete, marking a significant expansion from the eight parties that participated in the 2022 elections.

Meanwhile, in São Tomé and Príncipe, the official campaign period has commenced for the legislative, municipal, and regional elections scheduled for September 27. Seven political forces are competing, including the ruling ADI and the main opposition party, MLSTP. The campaign follows a decision by the Constitutional Court, led by President Artur Vera-Cruz, to reject certain candidacies within the MCI-PS/PUN coalition due to legal irregularities and allegations of forged signatures.
