Angola Architects Body Warns of Housing Crisis
The Order of Architects of Angola (OAA) has issued a warning regarding deepening challenges in the nation's housing sector. During the Urban October Reflection and Commemoration Forum in Luanda, OAA President Vity Nsalambi cited rapid population growth, inadequate territorial planning, and insufficient public policy frameworks as primary drivers of the crisis.
To address these issues, the OAA is advocating for an integrated approach that combines urban planning with social and economic viability. Proposed solutions include the adoption of low-cost construction techniques, the use of locally sourced materials, and the development of housing models tailored to local climatic conditions and family needs.
On the financial front, Nsalambi called for the creation of accessible credit mechanisms, specifically targeting families in the informal sector, and suggested incentivizing private investment through public-private partnerships. The organization also emphasized the need to assess the community impact of housing projects to prevent resident displacement and encourage local participation in urban decision-making.
