Angola authorizes $569.9 million for Huíla dam project

Angolan President João Lourenço has authorized an expenditure of approximately $569.9 million for the construction of the Jamba la Oma hydroelectric project in Huíla province. The project is designed to support irrigation, livestock activities, and the national electricity supply.

Financing for the works will be provided through external resources from Standard Bank South Africa and Standard Bank Angola. The initiative aims to regulate water flows, improve integrated water resource management, and enhance the security and flexibility of the national power system. This infrastructure is part of the government’s National Development Plan (PDN) to strengthen hydraulic and energetic systems.

The Ministry of Energy and Water has been delegated the authority to approve procedural documents and oversee the signing of contracts.
