Angola establishes regulations for app-based taxi services
The Angolan Council of Ministers, led by President João Lourenço, has approved new regulations to formalize app-based taxi services. The sector has operated for approximately eight years without specific rules, despite having six operators and 25,000 associated vehicles.
Key objectives of the new measure include formalizing the activity, establishing uniform tariff criteria to prevent price discrepancies, and increasing tax revenue collection. The government also aims to address safety concerns, such as crimes and violence against passengers, which have previously hindered investigations and accountability.
The regulation will also address personal data protection, following reports of drivers fraudulently using customer information. The measure now moves to the National Assembly for further proceedings.
