Angola hosts ICAO gender aviation summit and readies delegation for ITIE conference in Brussels

Luanda hosted the ICAO Global Gender in Aviation 2026 summit, bringing together over 950 participants from governments, industry, international organisations and academia. The conference highlighted the persistent gender gap—women account for roughly 4% of pilots, 3% of engineers and technicians, and just over 20% of air traffic controllers worldwide—and outlined actions to increase female participation and leadership in the sector. ICAO Secretary‑General Juan Carlos Salazar stressed that fully leveraging women’s talent is essential for the future of aviation.

Angola also announced its participation in the 2026 Global ITIE Conference on Extractive Industries Transparency, to be held in Brussels on 8‑9 October. Led by ITIE‑Angola executive director José Malanga, the delegation will include senior officials from government, the extractive sector and civil society. The country aims to showcase its progress in implementing the ITIE Standard, improve transparency in the management of mineral, oil and gas resources, and foster sustainable development through greater accountability.
