Angola implements new financial sustainability and transparency guidelines
The National Bank of Angola (BNA) has issued Circular Letter No. 02/2026, establishing new sustainability, governance, and transparency guidelines for the national financial sector. The regulation requires financial institutions to adopt international best practices, ensuring greater consistency and credibility in market information disclosure. Key mandates include the mandatory publication of an annual, reviewed Sustainability Report and the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) risks into global risk management systems.
Additionally, financial entities must now describe how climate risks and financial inclusion efforts impact their business models, revenues, and investment strategies. To monitor this, the BNA has defined minimum sustainability indicators and specific calculation methodologies for areas such as social impact and sustainable financing.
In a related effort to bolster the national economy, Banco Caixa Geral Angola (BCGA) hosted the first edition of the ‘Encontro Fora da Caixa’ in Luanda. The event brought together business leaders and economic decision-makers to discuss economic growth, competitiveness, and the diversification of the Angolan economy. Discussions focused on the role of the private sector in job creation, attracting investment, and navigating global economic transformations and technological innovation.
