Angola inaugurates new diamond cutting factory in Saurimo

The Angolan government has inaugurated a new diamond cutting factory at the Saurimo Diamond Development Pole in Lunda Sul province. The facility belongs to Diarough Angola, a subsidiary of the Belgian-based international group Diarough.

This new unit marks the sixth cutting facility to operate within the industrial complex. The project is expected to create 130 jobs, consisting of 100 local positions and 30 expatriate roles. The factory aims to reach a cutting capacity of 4,000 carats within the next two years.

Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, stated that the opening is a step toward the government's strategy to increase the value generated from national mineral resources within the country. He emphasized that diamond sector development must move beyond mere extraction to ensure more value remains in Angola through industrial processing and knowledge transfer. Lunda Sul Governor Gildo Matias also noted the investment's potential to boost the local economy and provide opportunities for the province's youth.
