Angola invests $4.6 million to bolster digital cybersecurity

The Angolan government is investing $4.6 million to launch the Digital Government Cybersecurity Program. This initiative aims to strengthen information system protection, safeguard critical infrastructure, and secure data supporting public digital services.

Formalized through a presidential decree, the project includes an immediate international public tender for specialized services. The program is part of the Angola Digital Acceleration Project (PADA), which is funded through an agreement between the state and the World Bank. Key objectives include assessing cybersecurity maturity, defining protection strategies, and establishing a Security Operations Center to manage incident response.

The decision by President João Lourenço follows recent security incidents, including a cyberattack on Unitel on August 28 that disrupted mobile and internet services nationwide. Previous threats were also noted, such as a May 2025 claim by the CyberTeam group regarding access to the National Assembly and other government ministries.
