Angola joins Space4Ocean Alliance to enhance marine monitoring
Angola has signed a declaration of intent to join the Space4Ocean Alliance during an international space summit in Paris. The initiative focuses on utilizing space technologies for the sustainable management, protection, and monitoring of oceans.
Through the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), Angola aims to align its national space capabilities with the needs of marine and coastal resource protection. The partnership includes capacity building and training to transform satellite data into practical solutions. Angola intends to contribute its existing expertise, such as the Tech-Ecologia application, which uses satellite imagery to detect and monitor offshore oil spills.
During the summit, the Angolan delegation also held high-level meetings with Airbus Defence and Space SAS to evaluate the progress of the ANGEO-1 project. Additionally, discussions were held with the African Space Agency (AFSA) regarding institutional cooperation, research, and the development of the African space industry.
