Angola launches 2026/2027 agricultural year in Cunene

Angola has officially opened the 2026/2027 agricultural year in the Cunene province, specifically within the Cafu Irrigated Perimeter. The launch coincides with reports of record-breaking agricultural performance, with the 2025/2026 campaign reaching nearly 33 million tonnes—a 7.1% increase from the previous period.

State Minister for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, noted that the growth was driven largely by roots and tubers, which reached 17.6 million tonnes, and fruit production, which grew by 7.7%. This increase in domestic production has contributed to a 31.1% decrease in food imports between 2017 and 2025.

To support the new campaign, the government is prioritizing food security and economic diversification by distributing seeds, fertilizers, and mechanization tools. Over 200,000 tonnes of fertilizer have been prepared for the upcoming cycle, with significant portions already allocated to provinces like Cunene to support approximately 271,000 farming families.
