Angola nominates Josefa Sacko for FAO Director-General
The Angolan government has formally submitted the candidacy of Ambassador Josefa Sacko for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The official presentation took place at the FAO headquarters in Rome during the World Food Forum.
Sacko, an agricultural engineer and current Angolan ambassador to Italy, has proposed a platform focused on modernizing agri-food systems through digitalization and artificial intelligence. Her priorities include strengthening family farming, increasing the participation of women and youth in the sector, and enhancing adaptive capacity to climate change.
The candidacy has received support from the African Union and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Sacko’s professional background includes roles as the Secretary-General of the Inter-African Coffee Organisation and as the African Union Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment.
