Angola reports $13 billion in seized assets and major healthcare expansion
During his State of the Nation address, Angolan President João Lourenço detailed significant progress in national infrastructure and the ongoing fight against economic crime.
In the healthcare sector, Lourenço reported that between 2017 and the first quarter of 2026, Angola constructed 736 health units, expanding the network from 2,612 to 3,348 facilities. This expansion includes 3,093 primary care posts and 172 municipal hospitals, with over 80% of new infrastructure dedicated to primary care.
Regarding economic recovery, the President stated that between 2022 and 2026, authorities seized or arrested assets valued at approximately $13 billion through anti-corruption investigations. He specifically highlighted efforts to recover €900 million held in a Swiss bank and $500 million held in Singapore, noting that these funds are intended for social infrastructure projects.
Additionally, Lourenço highlighted the success of port concessions in Lobito and Luanda, which have generated $380 million in state revenue and attracted $1.3 billion in guaranteed investment commitments.
