Angola targets one million barrels per day oil production floor

Angola is shifting its energy strategy from stabilizing production to driving growth. Petroleum Minister Diamantino Azevedo has instructed operators to maintain a production floor of at least one million barrels per day, moving beyond previous efforts to mitigate declines caused by aging offshore fields.

This push for increased output follows a period of volatility where production fluctuated around the million-barrel mark. Recent recovery efforts have been supported by new projects from companies including TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil, and Azule Energy, as well as the reactivation of mature wells.

Complementing these industrial goals, the launch of NJ Ayuk’s new book, ‘Crude Oil: Power, Turnaround and Transformation in Angola’, highlighted the country’s institutional reforms. The publication, supported by industry leaders such as Sonangol Group Chairman Sebastião Gaspar Martins, examines how regulatory certainty and local content policies are repositioning Angola as a major destination for energy investment in Africa.
