Angola: UNITA reorganizes leadership and IGEO administration reappointed

The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) has initiated a structural reorganization, involving the dismissal and appointment of several national and provincial leaders. According to decrees signed by President Adalberto Costa Júnior, Marta Solange Bela Felipe has been named national secretary for Finance, while Alexandre Chimanda assumes the role of party inspector-general. The reshuffle also extends to provincial leadership in regions including Cubango, Lunda Norte, Moxico, and Namibe.

Separately, President João Lourenço has reappointed the Board of Directors of the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO). José Manuel remains president of the board, alongside administrators Américo da Mata Lourenço Victorino and Elizabeth Cristina Gomes Botelho de Carvalho. This reappointment occurs amidst ongoing labor disputes at the institute, where workers have protested against wage disparities, working conditions, and unfulfilled commitments. These labor tensions included a 23-day strike in March, with staff citing significant differences in subsidies compared to other organizations within the mineral resources sector.
