Angolan civil society groups petition for inquiry into electoral registration
Civil society organizations in Angola, including HANDEKA, UYELE, and MOSAICO, have petitioned the Attorney General's Office (PGR) to open a judicial inquiry into the country's official electoral registration process.
The petition follows an alleged lack of response from the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MAT), led by Minister Daniel Félix Neto, regarding requests for oversight made since June. The organizations are seeking an independent audit of the Adult Citizens Database and its corresponding computer files to ensure data integrity, reliability, and legal compliance.
A primary concern cited by the groups is the alleged failure to remove records of deceased individuals from the database. Additionally, the organizations are calling for a financial audit of the expenses related to the MAT's life proof operation. They argue that the ministry's silence raises concerns regarding administrative transparency and the legal right of citizens to monitor public administration ahead of next year's general elections.
