Angolan diplomatic missions honor National Hero Day

Angolan diplomatic missions in Hungary and Serbia held various activities to commemorate September 17, the National Hero Day, honoring the legacy of the nation's founder and first president, Dr. António Agostinho Neto.

In Budapest, the Angolan Embassy in Hungary organized an international futsal tournament at the Panoráma Sportközpont. The event included teams from Angola, Hungary, Portugal, Rwanda, and Ghana, and was attended by diplomats from Portugal, Ghana, and Nigeria. The tournament aimed to promote unity, friendship, and sportsmanship while honoring Neto’s memory.

In Belgrade, the Angolan community and diplomatic corps in Serbia engaged in political, social, and cultural reflections. Activities included a discussion on Neto’s strategic role in the national liberation struggle and the laying of a wreath at his statue. The mission also donated a collection of handcrafted works depicting Angolan culture to the Museum of African Art in Belgrade. A futsal tournament involving youth from Angola, Ghana, Congo, and Eswatini was also held, with the Congolese team winning.
