Angolan intelligence services accused of targeting political figures
Allegations have surfaced regarding the use of state intelligence services in Angola to target political figures. Reports suggest that the State Intelligence and Security Service (SINSE), led by Fernando Garcia Miala, may be preparing a campaign to damage the public image of activist Francisco Teixeira, president of the Social Movement for Change (MSM).
These alleged tactics include the potential release of compromising images, possibly manipulated via artificial intelligence, to suggest a relationship between Teixeira and a prison service employee. Sources claim a previous attempt to influence Teixeira with a multi-million dollar proposal was rejected.
Separately, former intelligence official Fernando Vumby has warned of a strategy by MPLA President João Lourenço to weaken General Higino Carneiro. Vumby suggests that as Carneiro seeks to contest the MPLA leadership, intelligence methods could be used to target him politically, professionally, or personally, particularly if a false sense of reconciliation with Lourenço is established.
