Angry Anderson, Rose Tattoo frontman, dies at 79
Gary ‘Angry’ Anderson, the longtime frontman of the iconic Australian hard rock band Rose Tattoo, has died at the age of 79. His family and bandmates announced his passing on September 23, noting that he died on Monday, September 21, surrounded by loved ones in Australia.
Anderson’s death follows a health crisis that occurred during Rose Tattoo’s ‘One Last Ride’ farewell tour in Europe. In August, he suffered a cardiac arrest while the band was in Germany, leading to the cancellation of several scheduled performances, including appearances at the Wacken Open Air festival. Following the incident, he was flown back to Australia for medical treatment.
As the face of Rose Tattoo since its formation in 1976, Anderson was a central figure in the Australian music scene, known for hits such as ‘Bad Boy for Love’ and ‘Rock ’n’ Roll Outlaw’. Beyond his work with the band, he achieved solo success with the ballad ‘Suddenly’ and had an acting career with roles in films like ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome’. He was also recognized for his social advocacy and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1993.
