Anguillara Sabazia resident seeks help finding escaped pet snakes

A resident of Anguillara Sabazia, near Rome, has issued an urgent appeal for help in locating two escaped pet snakes. The animals, identified as a corn snake (Pantherophis guttatus) and a ball python, disappeared from their terrarium after being left slightly open during cleaning.

The owner, Leonardo, emphasized that the snakes are non-venomous, docile, and harmless to humans, stating they are “more innocuous than a dog.” He expressed concern that the news might cause unnecessary alarm in the community but felt compelled to act after a recent sighting of the red-colored snake in the San Francesco area.

Residents are asked to check outdoor spaces such as garages, cellars, flowerpots, or woodpiles where the animals might seek warmth and shelter. Anyone spotting the snakes is encouraged to contact the local forest protection command in Manziana, the Anguillara Sabazia Carabinieri, or the CITES office in Civitavecchia.
