ANIECA proposes digital monitoring for driving exams in Portugal
The National Association of Driving Schools (ANIECA) is advocating for the digital monitoring of driving exams in Portugal to increase transparency and reduce individual examiner bias. ANIECA president António Pinto Reis stated that monitoring could combat favoritism and address inconsistencies in how exams are conducted across different locations.
The association noted discrepancies in exam durations, pointing out that some practical tests do not meet the expected 50-minute timeframe. The proposed solution involves a digital tracking system—similar to the one used for driving lessons—to record candidate identification, starting locations, and exact start and end times. This would provide objective data to ensure procedures are followed uniformly.
While Portuguese law already requires the IMT to maintain records of practical tests, including examiner details and results, ANIECA argues that full digital monitoring of the entire process is necessary to build confidence among candidates and driving schools.
