Anima Educação sees downgraded analyst outlook after R$410 million FMU acquisition
Fitch Ratings reaffirmed Anima Educação’s national credit rating of “AA(bra)” and kept its outlook stable, noting that the company’s position in Brazil’s higher‑education market – especially its share of medical courses – remains strong. The rating incorporated Anima’s recently announced purchase of Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas (FMU) for R$410 million, a campus network currently in judicial recovery and whose closing is subject to regulatory approvals. Fitch said the deal can be absorbed without materially weakening Anima’s credit profile, although it reduces headroom for further strategic moves.
Itaú BBA cut its recommendation for Anima from “buy” to “neutral,” halved the target price from R$5.50 to R$2.50 and warned that the FMU acquisition raises execution risk and financial leverage. The bank projects 2026 net revenue of R$4.246 billion – a 5.5% rise year‑on‑year – and adjusted EBITDA of R$1.555 billion, driven mainly by price adjustments and an improved revenue mix rather than volume growth.
