Animal cruelty incidents reported in Danilovgrad and Budva

Two separate incidents of animal cruelty occurred in Montenegro within a 24-hour period, sparking discussions regarding the normalization of violence against animals in society.

In Danilovgrad, a Japanese Akita was severely wounded by gunfire. The prosecutor's office has classified the incident as a criminal offense involving the killing and torture of animals and the destruction of their habitat. In Budva, a cat sustained serious injuries from an air rifle, resulting in the loss of an eye which required surgical intervention.

Activists and volunteers, including Daliborka Rešetar from the NGO Kuća životinja, have called for more effective investigations and stricter penalties, arguing that current laws are insufficient if enforcement remains weak. Police are currently working to identify the perpetrators in both cases.
