Animal cruelty incidents reported in Mexico
Two separate incidents of animal cruelty have been reported in Mexico. In Valle de Chalco, residents filmed a video showing several individuals, including a child, attacking a black dog at a mechanical workshop. The dog, which appeared to be chained, was struck with a belt and kicked. Following the viral spread of the video, the Valle de Chalco Animal Protection Unit (UPA) intervened to rescue the animal, which sustained injuries to its face and body.
In Mexico City, a 67-year-old man was detained after allegedly throwing a dog from the rooftop of a building in the Gustavo A. Madero borough. Shortly after the act, the man jumped from the same rooftop. Police officers attempted to negotiate with him, but he proceeded with the fall, resulting in multiple traumas and suspected fractures. The dog was rushed to the Animal Surveillance Brigade (BVA) for emergency care, but it suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest following the fall.
