Animal disease outbreaks reported in Austria and Germany

Authorities in Austria and Germany are implementing measures to manage animal disease outbreaks. In Austria, a farm in the Bregenz district was recently closed after a cow tested positive for bovine tuberculosis. To contain the spread, officials in Vorarlberg and Tyrol have mandated a four-week sales ban for cattle that spent the summer on high-altitude pastures in high-risk areas. These animals must undergo additional testing before they can be sold.

In Germany, monitoring of wild boar near Grabenstätt in the Traunstein district has detected antibodies for Aujeszky disease. While the virus poses no threat to humans, it is fatal to dogs, cats, and domestic pigs. Authorities advise pet owners to keep dogs on leashes in high-risk areas and to avoid feeding raw wild boar meat to animals to prevent infection.
