Tegucigalpa authorities relocate pitbull after fatal attack

In Tegucigalpa, Honduras, authorities from the Alcaldía Municipal del Distrito Central (AMDC) have removed a pitbull named Zeus from a residence in the Hato de Enmedio neighborhood following a fatal attack. The incident resulted in the death of 75-year-old Alex Alfonso Maldonado Bonilla, who reportedly suffered two separate attacks before passing away.

Zeus will undergo a 10-day sanitary observation period to rule out rabies before being transferred to a shelter. Municipal officials stated they are not authorized to euthanize the animal and emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership and proper living conditions.

This tragedy has reignited local debate regarding the enforcement of existing regulations in the Distrito Central, which prohibit certain breeds, and the national Law for the Protection and Welfare of Animals. Additionally, a local rescuer has warned the public against scammers attempting to collect unauthorized donations in the dog's name while investigations continue.
