Animal rights activists protest vaquilla festivities in El Moralet

The Plataforma Defensa Animal has organized protests in El Moralet to oppose the traditional 'vaquilla' festivities. Demonstrators gathered near the bullring on Gran Danés Street to express their rejection of using animals for entertainment.

Organizer Alicia Meseguer stated that the practice causes significant stress and fear for the animals, noting that some die from the stress of being transported and chased. The group argues that traditions should evolve to ensure that public celebrations do not depend on animal suffering. They are calling for a debate on the continuity of these events and the implementation of alternative festivities.

This debate has historical roots in the area; the festivities were suspended between 2015 and 2017 during a different local administration but returned in 2018. Protesters also highlighted concerns regarding public costs, neighborhood disturbances, and potential physical risks to spectators.
